A.E. Palmer & Sons
Glue Clamp Manufacturers

Owosso, Michigan

Albert E. Palmer was born in Michigan in 1850 and was a jeweler by trade, operating his store located at 805 West Main St. He invented a glue and stamping machine and along with his two sons, Homer and Harry, manufactured wood glue clamps. They started their company in about 1905 and Albert E. Palmer died March 20, 1916.

The Palmer Factory by 1920 was located at 312 W. Main St. Owosso, MI next to the Shiawassee River. The factory building was attached to the west side of the Mueller Brothers Brewery Company building at the northwest corner of Main and Water Streets.

The Palmer Company closed in about 1955.

An example of one of their larger glue clamps is shown below. Thanks to Marcus Hutchison of Hutchison Brother's Custom Cabinets of Russellville, Arkansas for suppling the pics of the clamp.

This is an 8 Section Clamp Rack that contains 6 clamps per section and the whole unit rotates. The legs and the round shaft that runs through the middle are cast iron and the whole unit weighs about 2,000 lbs.

It was used to hold wood parts until the glue cured, such as door or window frames and cabinet door panels.

The clamp rack measures about 10 1/2' high X 9' wide X 10' deep.
